A SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket lifted off from pad 39A at Kennedy Space Center early Friday morning. This time exposure image captured the 'space jellyfish" effect of the contrail viewed from Port Canaveral Marine. The white streak on the horizon was caused by light from a cruise ship coming into port. Malcolm Denemark/Florida Today/USA Today Network via Reuters hide caption

These images show how comet C/2014 UN271's nucleus was isolated from a shell of dust and gas (a coma) surrounding the solid nucleus. At left is a photo of the comet taken by the Hubble telescope on Jan. 8. A model of the coma (middle) was obtained by fitting the surface brightness profile assembled from the left image. This permitted the coma to be subtracted, revealing the nucleus's pointy glow. Space Telescope Science Institute/Macau University of Science and Technology hide caption
