Woman killed, boy injured in Lincoln Park shooting

The pair had come up on a fight involving the boy’s father and other men behind an apartment complex, police said

A fight in an apartment complex parking lot early Saturday left a woman dead and her 12-year-old son injured in a shooting in Lincoln Park, San Diego police said.

The shooting was reported about 2:20 a.m. at the complex on Willie James Jones Avenue, north of Imperial Avenue.

While police had few details about the circumstances of the dispute, it appears that the boy and his mother came upon a fight in a carport between his father and two to three other men, said police homicide Lt. Steve Shebloski.

Police who arrived on scene found the mother, 31, dead of a multiple gunshot wounds and the boy with a gunshot wound to his right leg, Shebloski said. The boy’s father, 32, was suffering from contusions and other injuries to his face and body.

Shortly after, officers located a suspect, Alex Galvan, 22, who had been shot in the wrist, the lieutenant said. The gun believed to have been used in the shooting was also recovered, he said.

Galvan was arrested and was being treated at a hospital. He is expected to be booked into jail on a murder charge, Shebloski said. A 24-year-old companion was detained and being questioned. Police were also searching for another man believed to have either been involved or witnessed the violence, who was seen walking away from the scene.

The boy underwent surgery and was expected to survive his wound. His father was also being treated in a hospital. The deceased woman’s name was not released.
